Bite and habits
Assessing how dummies, thumb sucking, clenching and posture affect the teeth.
Long-term dummy use, thumb sucking, mouth breathing and grinding the teeth at night can affect the development of the teeth and jaws. Spotting these habits early and changing them in time can reduce the need for more extensive orthodontic treatment later.
What we look for
- Front teeth that do not meet, an open bite
- Upper and lower teeth that meet crosswise, a crossbite
- The age at which dummy use and thumb sucking continue
- Grinding and clenching the teeth at night
- Mouth breathing and posture
A proper examination looks not only at the teeth but at the health of the whole mouth and jaw. Sometimes a sign that a parent considers minor may point to another problem. When needed, we work together with an orthodontist, an ENT specialist or a paediatrician.
