Dental X-ray
To find hidden decay and infection, first introducing the child to the machine.
When we look with the eye, we only see the visible part of the teeth. Decay between the teeth, the condition of the roots, infection and the development of the permanent teeth can only be seen on an X-ray. That is why X-rays are so important for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
How we prepare the child for an X-ray
Helping the child feel comfortable and safe is the first step of the examination. We first introduce our young patient to the X-ray machine, explain what will happen through play, and then take the image.
When an X-ray is needed
- When decay between the teeth is suspected
- Before and after root canal treatment
- When deciding when to remove a baby tooth
- After an injury, to check the root and the developing permanent tooth
We only take an X-ray when it will affect the treatment decision. We do not take unnecessary images.
