Fillings
Removing decay and filling the cavity, explaining every step to the child.
Once a cavity has formed, it does not go away on its own. The decayed tissue is removed and the cavity is filled with a special material. With children we carry out this process through play, explaining every step.
How we work with the child
- We show each instrument to the child first and name it in words they understand
- Before the anaesthetic we explain what they will feel
- We continue each stage with the child’s consent
- After treatment a small surprise awaits our brave patient
Why fill a baby tooth
Untreated decay goes deeper, reaches the nerve and causes pain and infection. Infection can also affect the developing permanent tooth. A small filling placed in time can spare the child root canal treatment or an extraction later.
