Full-mouth treatment in one session
Solving the problems in all teeth in one visit, usually under sedation.
Sometimes a child has problems with several teeth rather than one: decay, inflamed nerves, broken-down baby teeth. Treating this over weeks and several visits tires the child and increases their fear. In full-mouth treatment we usually solve all the problems in one session under sedation.
What one session may include
- Removing decay and placing fillings
- Root canal treatment of baby teeth
- Steel crowns on broken-down baby teeth
- Removing teeth that cannot be saved
- Taking measurements for a space maintainer if needed
For example, for one young patient we did 6 root canal treatments, 4 steel crowns and 7 fillings in a single session. The parent brought the child once, and the child slept through the treatment.
How the plan is made
First we examine the child and take X-rays, and explain the condition of each tooth to the parent. Then we discuss together which teeth will be treated and which will be removed. The treatment day is set once the paediatrician’s clearance for sedation has been received.
